I (Geoff) was invited to attend the Thames Water Volunteer Awards 2005 at the London Wetland Centre
on 15th September. It was an inspiring day for me to be able to
meet volunteers from all sectors of the company who give of themselves
to a range of charities and organisations they are passionate about.
The guest speaker was Chris Packham who delivered a great speech on the environment (remember to allow your grass to grow).
The wetland is a very interesting place and very special being so close to central
London. We were taken on a tour of the site and shown the birds that
fly in from all over the globe. It is well worth a visit.
17 awards were made and I was awarded the Thames Water WaterAid
volunteer of the year. I was really honoured to get the award when
there are so many worthy WaterAid supporters at Thames Water. I have to put it
down to Humphrey's charm!
The award came with a donation of £500 towards WaterAid and two fine
cut crystal glasses. I knew that one of these would be for Mike - I
could not have done it without the support of my faithful brother (who would support the rear hump!)
A big thank you to Thames for the generous donation and support. Camel xx
