Humphrey gears up for the 2007 Coast Along PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 03 August 2007
Humphrey paid a visit to the South West Water, Met Office and Environment Agency offices to see how many of his friends were joining him on the 2007 Coast Along in September ! read on to find out more..........

Gearing up for the 2nd WaterAid Coast Along in September - Humphrey visits South West Water, The Met Office and the Environment Agency in Devon

In order to help with this years Coast Along my good friends at South West Water, the Met Office and Environment Agency invited me down to visit them to help get some of their colleagues to join in !

So along with my minder Mustapha we jumped into a car and made our way down to the south coast. I was hoping to see some of my fellow camels there as I knew Camelford wasn’t far away !

First up was South West Water who are organising the event this year. We met Sue Alcock at the front gates and had our photos taken with Dr Steven Bird, the Operations Director of SWW.

Then it was off to meet Sue’s colleagues around their offices. I even got to look around the newly furbished Service Centre and saw a big lit up map of where we’d be walking !

Everyone was happy to have their photo taken with myself and Mustapha and you can see those pictures on the website. We even got to go around the canteen and I got to choose what I wanted for lunch ! Before I left I helped Sue to answer a few phone calls in the library “Hello, Humphrey the Camel speaking – how may I help you ?…..”

After my meal of leaves and grass (well, what else would you expect a camel to eat !?) it was time to pay a visit to my friends at the Met Office where we were met by Toff and Andy who showed us around their offices. I got to have a look at how they predicted the weather (I look forward to my stint at presenting the weather – I’ll be waiting for the call !) – if only they could make the weather and stop all this rain we are having! Let’s hope they can do their magic on the big day and make sure we have brilliant weather – no pressure guys !

Finally, it was around the corner to my chums at the Environment Agency where we were met by Ben who took us to meet Regional Director Richard Cresswell and to visit his other colleagues around the offices. We met heaps of enthusiastic people who I hope to see walking along the coastal path on the day – there’s no excuse not to help raise money for WaterAid ! It was then time to say goodbye to everyone and make my way back home to get a good night’s sleep. It’s hard work being a camel !

Thanks to everyone who made us feel so welcome – I hope to see you all again soon !!

The next day it was off to see where I’d be starting from – so it was off to Westward Ho ! to get in some views and to make some new camel friends along the way !!

I look forward to seeing you when I walk from Westward Ho ! to Clovelly on 15th September 2007 !
