Humphrey’s adventures in Devon
I was invited down to stay with my friend Phil and his family in Devon and to take part in some adventure activities so never being a camel to turn down a challenge I put my best hooves forward and gave it a go ! First up was mountain boarding which I guess is a cross between skate boarding and snowboarding (of which I have done neither). Thankfully this session was done on grass and not on a mountain (after all I am a camel and not a mountain goat !)
Before we were let out on the slopes we had to put our safety equipment on (which I was surprised fitted me as I doubt if they get many camels in Devon) I sat down with my chums and listened as the instructors told us how to stay on the board, how to stop and most important of all how to be safe ! Once I’d mastered these it was time to hit the slopes !
My slightly younger chums (needless to say I am no longer a spring camel any more…) were eager to show me how it was done and I was suitably impressed by their skills as they sped down the hill with the greatest of ease but I soon followed them (it had been a while since I’d felt the wind rushing through my fur !) although I left the jumps to them !. The only problem was that when you got down to the bottom of the hill you had to walk back up again ! What an experience though – I might just have to give it another go next time I’m back there ! Thanks to guys at South west mountain board centre (swmbc) for letting me have a go ! As luck would have it next door to the mountain boarding centre was The Ultimate High - high rope centre – wow ! another chance for me to test my adventure activity skills ! but alas, health and safety regulations don’t allow for camels to take part in such activities so all I could do was go up the tower and have a look at the view (mind you that log bridge did look a bit tricky !) It was a fantastic view and the course looked great so if you’re down that way then give it a go ! Thanks to the people at The Ultimate High for allowing a Humphrey to go where no camel has gone before ! On my way back home I thought I’d stop of at a few places to see if I could find any of my family who came to the UK long before I did ! (no luck though…) |
